DAAD SCHOLARSHIPS Financial Benefits

Eligibility Criteria of the DAAD Scholarship Germany

Typical Scholarship Holder:

  • He works either for a public authority or a state or private company in a developing country and, as such, participates in the planning and implementation of directives and projects with an emphasis on development policies that have an impact on technological, economic or social areas.
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree (usually four years) in a related subject.
  • Completed an academic degree with results well above average (upper third) and at least two years of relevant professional experience after the first degree (Bachelor’s) at the time of application.
  • His academic degree should normally not be more than six years old.

Applicants who have resided in Germany for more than 15 months by the application deadline cannot be considered.


Language skills

  • For study courses in German (The scholarship includes a 6-month preparatory German language course in Germany): Passed the DSH 2 or TestDaF 4 language exam before the start of the course. Therefore, a minimum German language level of B1 at the time of application is a requirement that needs to be proven by presenting a current certificate.
    Note: Passing a language test is an essential prerequisite for enrollment at the respective German university, and it is not possible to pass the required German language courses (DSH or TestDaF) without any previous basic knowledge of the German language (at least B1 level), even with the six-month intensive course in Germany .
  • For courses in English: IELTS (Band 6) or TOEFL certificate (minimum score: 550 paper-based, 213 computer-based, 80 internet-based).

  • Hand-signed letter of motivation (with reference to current occupation), maximum 2 pages.
  • Academic recommendation letter(s) (Letters must have letterhead, signature and official stamp and must be recent).
  • Professional letter(s) of recommendation from the employer (the letter must have letterhead, signature and official seal and must be recent).
  • Confirmation of employment from your employer in your home country and, if applicable, a guarantee of re-employment.
  • Proof of language abilities: English – TOEFL or IELTS (note: we only accept academic TOEFL).
  • Proof of German language abilities – essential for courses taught in German; For courses taught in English, if applicable
  • Copies of awarded academic degrees (certified with certified translation if required)
  • Copies of academic transcripts (certified with certified translation if necessary)
